Gulliver caught his first bird today. A big black one. And of course, he had to take it inside. We had feathers all over the ground floor before we noticed what he was up to!

Oh, well. While I'm not found of finding birds on the floor, (and I doubt this will be the only one) it's in a cat's nature to hunt. And I'll rather have a happy cat outside climbing trees and hunting birds and lizards than a sad cat trapped inside all the time. And since we've let Gulliver out, beginning to keep him inside now would be cruel.

I wonder if he'll brake the older cat's record of putting two almost fully grown rabbits under my father's bed... We still have no idea how he managed to get them through the cat door...

Okay, I'm sorry, but that's really funny to me!! The rabbits I mean. I don't mean it's funny that there were dead rabbits under your father's bed. I mean it's funny that the cat probably thought he was "gifting" your dad with them! I had a beagle who loved to hunt mice and she always brought them into the kitchen entrance from the laundry room/outside and would literally plop them by my feet and look up so proudly at me!!! It was hysterical! But the poor mice (some of them were baby field mice)! AND I had to get rid of them before she tried to eat them! THAT wasn't funny at all! Not pleasant, despite my Animal Science background from school. It's one thing to dissect "pickled" things and/or work with live animals, but getting rid of dead things in general is NOT a pleasant thing to do any time! Congratulations to Gulliver's "first kill," even though gross, it was very "manly" ("catly"?) of him to do so!

Thanks. Well, Gulliver is very proud of himself. Today, he was playing with a little bat. (The animal kind, not the baseball kind) Luckily, my father managed to take it away from him before he killed it.

Now I don't mind a cat's nature at all. It doesn't bother me that our cat drags home its prey and lays in on our doorstep. But I'm really sick and tired of stepping onto mice, rats, birds and whatnots first thing in the morning.

They. Squish. And Squelch. :: shudders ::

But I'm sure there's a great hunting future ahead for Gulliver. First a snake, now a bird. Wait till he brings the first small dog home. :: LOL ::

Eeuuch!!!

Okay! Eeuuch!!! Stepping on ANYTHING squishy, especially first thing in the morning when you're not quite awake yet anyway, has to be pretty disgusting! At least that dog of mine brought her "gifts" to me only when I called her to come in, so I was much more able to "handle" it when she did present her latest kill to me. And, hey! watch that about catching a dog! I like dogs! At least let him catch one of those yappy mini-dogs that underweight models (is that a redundancy?) like to carry in oversize purses as an accessory to their outfits for some reason! LOL!!

LOL! Hopefully he'll never suceed in bringing home a dog. We do want to be at peace with our neighbours, ya' know!

And I'm so with you with the squish and squelch thing. My old cat once put a dead mouse *in* my bed while I was sleeping. I almost had a heart attack when I woke up.
