For years I've been going through friend's movie collections searching for Girls Just Want To Have Fun. I adored that movie as a pre-teen and must've borrowed it from my cousin more than 20 times. It was a bad quality copy taped of a TV showing, but I didn't care. There was dancing, pretty clothes, funny lines, and hair spray on fire. Then she went and accidentally taped something over it, and I was crushed.

As the years went by I watched the female actors in other things. Cute Shannen became Brenda in Beverly Hills 90210, Helen Hunt became Mad About Some Guy, and then starred against Jack Nicholson and won an Oscar. And Sarah Jessica Parker had Sex in the City. A lot. And the whole time, I was searching for a piece of my childhood every time I was near someones VCR tapes. (I'd pretty fast figured out it wasn't available in any Swedish stores, and I desperately wanted it with Swedish subtitles.

Yesterday, as I cast a distracted glance into a supermarket's bargain bin for cheap DVD's and tapes, I suddenly saw IT. On the front cover of a DVD was Helen Hunt, Sarah Jessica Parker and Shannen Doherty in mid jump. And with with bright white and orange colors it said, Girls Just Want To Have Fun.

I almost squealed. A lady at the fruit stand nearby looked at me funny, so maybe I did squeal.

Anyway, tonight I'm going back to the 80's. And I'll never sneer at a bargain bin again.
