The latest sockpuppet scandal and the meme that followed made me realize something.

1. No one of my LJ friends have ever met me in person.

2. As far as I can remember, the only one with my RL adress is JoeyRZ, who got it very recently when she asked for adresses to send christmas cards to. (Btw, Joey contact me with your RL adress if you want a card from Sweden. I need it before December 11 to be sure it gets to you before christmas eve.)

3. While Kristina is what most of my friends and family call me, it's not the name on my bills. (There's a long story involving middle-names and me being to lazy to do a proper name change as an explanation for that one)

4. I'm from a small country and don't know of any other 'slashers' near where I live. (Although as far as I know, there could be one next door. It's not something I talk about in many RL conversations.

However in case anyone should suspect me of being a sockpuppet... ;)

1. I'm not very active in fandom. And while I consider several people I've met on line friends, I can't think of anyone who would contact me first in an emergency.

2. My bad spelling would give me away if I tried to act like someone else.

3. If I died you guys would probably not know about it. Few people in my RL have ever been told about what I do on line, and then mostly in passing. Even fewer of them are both computer savy and somewhat good at speaking english. That one of those people in my life would get hold of my laptop, crack the passwords and let you guys know, well... it could happen but I wouldn't count on it. Although, after this debacle I might tell a friend I'll leave a file on my computer with contact info to some mailing list and my lj incase of my demise.

4. If I got seriously ill, you all would hear about it when I personally got to a computer. Period. Before that, I would be busy being sick.

5. Most of the time I can't be bothered to update *one* LJ. Keeping several identities are too much work. I'm lazy.

6. If I was a sockpuppet there would be more people commenting my LJ posts. Just saying...

AND MOST IMPORTANT:

If I ask for something more than a postcard or a fic as a gift, my LJ has been hacked and I've been taken over by a sockpuppet/troll. No one of my RL friend would ever ever post here asking for gifts of any kind for me, nor would I do that myself.

I'm extremely lucky. I live in a country with a good social security safety net. And I have a large family that would help me if I truly needed it. How I know that? Because I *did* have a RL crisis, a huge one, but my RL safety nets came through for me.

I adore that fandom can pitch in and help people who needs it. People who hasn't been blessed by the safety nets I have. And I hope that it will continue despite some asshats using it to get lipgloss and whatever there was on that wish-list. But personally, I have a hard time asking those closest to me in RL for help unless there's an huge emergency, asking people I haven't met in person? Is not going to happen. There are others who needs fandoms help more.

That's all.
