The new Vorkosigan novel, I haz it
Aug. 7th, 2010 11:52 pmI just finished my Advance Reader Copy of Lois McMaster Bujold's latest Vorkosigan novel, Cryoburn. Oh, how I love that Baen sells unproofed e-books way before the hardcover is released. True, I wouldn't buy an ARC of just any author, but not having to wait until November for my next Vorkosigan fix? Awesome! And I could buy it from Sweden! I can't buy most american e-books anymore. (It has something to do with publishing rights, I think.)
Anyway, my first reaction after reading the book is behind a cut, because for practically the first time, I might not be the *last* to get access to new fandom material. To quote River Song: Spoilers!
Aral!!!!!! Howl!
I knew it was probably comming, I read a lot of foreboding between the lines in some parts of the book, but still those three words was like a punch in the stommach. I kind of wish she'd ended the novel there and put the dabbles in as a teaser in the paperback version for the next book. I hope there *will be* another book. I know she's been talking about an Ivan novel... Maybe a book about the Vorkosigan dealing with the loss of Aral from Ivan's POV? There's definately another book in those dabbles. As it stands now, it felt like a cliffhanger. I liked Cryoburn as a Miles adventure, but it doesn't fit as the last in a series.
And yet again, Aral!!!!! Howl!! :(
