Project Runway
Oct. 30th, 2010 12:24 amMy thoughts about PR, behind a cut since for once there's a chance I'm not the last one online to watch it.
I've been rooting for two designers almost the entire season, Michael C. and Mondo.
Michael C, because I really liked his winning dress in the hat challenge, and then because of how the others treated him. I never thought he'd make it to fashon week though. I just wanted him to beat some of the other designers *cough*Ivy*cough*. Because he was judged unfairly. I've never seen a designer on PR be treated like that by the other designers. Not on that scale. My bullying detector was on red alert a lot this season. :(
Mondo on the other hand, I really thought would win. He did so many stunning outfits during the competition, but I think he benefitted from having the other designers there with him. Put one beautiful colourful parrot together with other more plainer birds, and the parrot stands out in all it's glory. Put to many parrots together and you have a zoo or a circus. He should have had a couple of pieces without prints. They could've still had bright colours, but without the patterns. Then the ones with prints would've popped, and the plainer ones could have shown a more elegant Mondo. And he really should've lost the headpieces!
Every finale, I play a little game during the runway. If I could fit into the clothes and had the lifestyle for them, would I wear them? Not one of Gretchen's looks made me say yes. :( A couple of Mondos pieces were really nice and something I would wear, but often just half of his look, together with something plainer to tone it down a bit. Loved the dress with the puffy skirt.
Strangely enough, Andy won my little game easy. And I haven't liked much of his work before now.
I guess I'm really lost when it comes to fashion because all of Gretchens winnings during the season made me go wtf?!! I really don't see what the judges see. It looks boring and dated to me.
I think PR is the big loser though. I hope they'll go back to putting the focus on the *designs* instead of the styling again, and take a step back with the drama. I doubt it though. Unfortunately, I think the 'new' PR makes the PTB happy. Why focus on talent and great design when you can focus on drama?
